Waymeet for Tolkien Teachers

To submit a syllabus to be considered for publication on Waymeet, follow these requirements:
  • All syllabi submitted must be for courses that have previously been taught by the person who makes the submission and must be clearly related to the subject of Tolkien’s life or works.
  • Each syllabus submitted must include:
    – Title of Course;
    – Instructor(s);
    – Last semester course was taught;
    – Department(s) in which course was taught and course number or year level (graduate, sophomore, junior, etc.);
    – College or university;
    – Email address for instructor(s).
    – General Description: State the nature and purpose of the course in no more than 300 words.
    – Texts: List the required readings used in the course.
    – Syllabus: List the day-by-day topics and/or readings and assignments for the course, including due dates for readings, papers, exams, etc.
    – Grading: Mention the weight of each assignment, how grades are assessed, and how grades are determined.
    – Assignments: Describe briefly all required assignments for the course.
  • The maximum length for any single syllabus submission is 5 pages.
  • Syllabus submissions must be formatted with all margins (left, right, top, and bottom) of no less than once inch, in a standard font (Times New Roman, Calibri, Arial) and with a font size of 12 points.
  • Syllabi must be submitted as PDF documents.
To submit a formal assignment to be considered for publication on Waymeet, follow these requirements:
  • All assignments submitted must be for courses that have previously been taught by the person who makes the submission and must be clearly related to the subject of Tolkien’s life or works.
  • Each assignment submitted must include:
    – Title of Course;
    – Instructor(s);
    – Last semester course was taught;
    – Department(s) in which course was taught and course number or year level (graduate, sophomore, junior, etc.);
    – College or university;
    – Email address for instructor(s).
  • The maximum length for any assignment submission is 4 pages
  • Assignment submissions must be formatted with all margins (left, right, top, and bottom) of no less than once inch, in a standard font (Times New Roman, Calibri, Arial) and with a font size of 12 points.
  • Assignments must be submitted as PDF documents.
To submit an exercise/informal assignment to be considered for publication on Waymeet, follow these requirements:

  • Class exercises/informal assignments must be for courses that were created and taught by the person who makes the submission and must be clearly related to the subject of Tolkien’s life or works.
  • Each exercise/informal assignment submitted must include:
    – Title of Course;
    – Instructor(s);
    – Last semester course was taught;
    – Department(s) in which course was taught and course number or year level (graduate, sophomore, junior, etc.);
    – College or university;
    – Email address for instructor(s).
  • The maximum length for any class exercise/informal assignment submission is 4 pages.
  • Class exercise/informal assignment submissions must be formatted with all margins (left, right, top, and bottom) of no less than once inch, in a standard font (Times New Roman, Calibri, Arial) and with a font size of 12 points.
  • Class exercises/informal assignments must be submitted as PDF documents.
To submit a handout to be considered for publication on Waymeet, follow these requirements:
  • All handouts submitted must be for courses that have previously been taught by the person who makes the submission and must be clearly related to the subject of Tolkien’s life or works.
  • Each handouts submitted must include:
    – Title of Course;
    – Instructor(s);
    – Last semester course was taught;
    – Department(s) in which course was taught and course number or year level (graduate, sophomore, junior, etc.);
    – College or university;
    – Email address for instructor(s).
  • The maximum length for any handout submission is 8 pages
  • Handout submissions must be formatted with all margins (left, right, top, and bottom) of no less than once inch, in a standard font (Times New Roman, Calibri, Arial) and with a font size of 12 points.
  • Handouts must be submitted as PDF documents.
Although Waymeet publishes primarily pedagogical resources to aid teachers in developing college-level courses on Tolkien and his works, we occasionally publish academic articles that describe pedagogical issues involved in teaching Tolkien’s works. Such articles must follow the requirements below:
  • All articles must discuss teaching concepts or methods that have been previously used in a course related  to Tolkien’s life or works by the person submitting the article.
  • Articles may not exceed 15 pages.
  • Each article must include:
    – Author's name;
    – College or university and department;
    – Author's email address.
  • Articles must be formatted with all margins (left, right, top, and bottom) of no less than once inch, in a standard font (Times New Roman, Calibri, Arial) and with a font size of 12 points.
  • Articles must be submitted as Word documents (.doc, .dox, or .rtf).
